Welcome to 5W at Mary Bergeron Elementary! The 2018-2019 school year is going to be fantastic!
Here's a quick description of topics and skills that will be covered throughout the year.
Students will be learning about many different topics in science this year. This includes:
- Weather Watch
- Electricity and Magnetism
- Mechanisms Using Electricity
- Classroom Chemistry
- Wetland Ecosystems
In our classroom we will be studying Canada, including its geography, history, and culture. Students will develop a stronger sense of people's identities as Canadians, as well as appreciating the diversity of our country. We will be covering the following topics:
- Physical Geography of Canada
- Histories and Stories of Ways of Life in Canada
- Canada: Shaping an Identity
Students will continue to develop their number sense through a variety of different lessons.
Some topics that will be covered this year are:
- Whole numbers, addition, subtraction, and estimation
- Mutiplication and division
- Fractions and decimals
- Data Analysis
Throughout the year students will be working on their skills in reading, writing, and spelling.
Students will continue to improve their reading comprehension and fluency through participation in a variety of lessons, including:
- weekly vocabulary units
- guided reading
- reading strategy lessons
- novel studies
- grammar and speech activities
